My American Foxhound has severe food interolerances to most meat products. He tolerates Royal Canin Anallergenic and Hypoallergenic (containing hydrolized protein) best, but I cannot afford their very high price tags. I have tried him on numerous limited ingredient foods with a moderate to poor success rate. His stool was more formed than most other food, but he had a large quanitity of poop everyday. Sometimes going as many as 5 to 6 times daily. I saw a marked difference when I switched him to the Natural Balance Vegetarian dry food. He now has just 2 to 3 formed bowel movements daily. This food may not be the best for other dogs, but it really works well for him. I would recommend this to anyone with a dog with a similar condition. Thanks for your insightful reviews. It has helped me to make informed decisions on food for my other dogs.
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Anallergenic Dry Dog Food
My dog is almost 12 and just started eating her poop once the vet put her on Royal Canin Anallergenic (aka Ultamino) food. The main ingredients are corn starch and bird feathers. At first, I thought maybe it was dirt; she has never eaten poop before. I was in denial… until last night when there was no second guessing. I am transitioning her to Acana food against the vet’s wishes because I will not have her eating poop because of the food. One vet told me that it’s because there are extra nutrients in the poop and I may be overfeeding. I find that unlikely. Also, she had a blood test and EPI test done in January and she is normal. Thanks to this article, I will try the enzymes as I have some at home for now until transition is done, but I am very unhappy with Royal Canin’s food. $100 bag of Corn Starch!!
included in the anallergenic dry dog food formula of Royal Canin.
Royal Canin Ultamino (formerly Anallergenic) Dog Food can be fed for upto 3 to 8 weeks. If signs of intolerance disappears, this diet can be used indefinitely.
