Since you are posting on the best raw foods thread, I’m assuming you are considering a raw diet? If so and looking for a commercially prepared raw diet, I would chose a company that uses HPP for their poultry. I’m using Stella & Chewy’s Chicken Dinner right now as a topper for both my dogs. They love it and I find it looks more like real meat than other raw brands I’ve used. Just as a warning though, commercial raw can be expensive for us big dog owners!

That kind of defeats the purpose of raw food, as cooking it can kill some nutrients. Raw food isn’t necessarily the best option for everyone (not for me), but cooking the food is probably not the way to go. Most raw food does not contain bacteria that causes diarrhea for dogs, (humans have to be more careful.) though this one is being recalled at the moment so I wouldn’t recommend it. There are several brands of cooked frozen foods, foods that are cooked at the lowest FDA safe temperature and then immediately frozen. You could look into those if you don’t want to feed raw, but don’t like the processing of commercial foods.

I have been feeding my dog Natures own variety…..raw frozen patties…….she was just diagnosed with huge bladder stones (via x-ray and bloody urine) she had surgery this morning and I will never feed her raw again. They said that they have never seen stones this large in such a small dog…she is a Bichon and weighs only 11 lbs. I used to think that raw was the best and now I will trust my vet and the large companies that make dog food who do the most extensive studies with live feedings to all stages dogs, their goals besides making money is to prolong the life of our pets. My vet has been practicing for 40 years and he has dogs, cats, horses and he feeds his dogs and cats these foods and not raw…..I am sick of hearing the hype about raw, raw almost killed my dog!
