Sometimes! This is a common concern with smaller pets and goes hand in hand with training as well. A new pet door can be confusing for your dog, but it does not mean they will never get it. Small pets may feel like their new door is overwhelming and have trouble going through. It is a good idea to try and purchase a smaller flap relative to to your pet’s size. The bigger the pet door, the heavier the flap. If you have big and small pets sharing, try looking for flaps with adjustable magnetic strength. Magnets are one of the main features which increases a flap’s weight. Reducing or adjusting your magnets can make the flap light enough for your small pet, so they can play outside too! There are also motorized pet doors, which do not require your pets to push anything.

If you leave your dog out (hence the doggy door) you can’t lock everything down… I have seen couch pillows drug out big doggy doors!

Pros & Cons: The door is big enough even for adult humans to fit through it, so any large dogs – Dogs or Great Danes – will fit well. The style of the door itself is not flap but rather a saloon-type of thing. It's extremely solid, sturdy and feels ultra-durable. Puppies usually have no issue pushing through these doors if needed.

10. Rounded edges help your dog fit through pet doors easier. Square edges can lead to some bigger dogs getting stuck on the corners. The Plexidor electronic pet door is basically a copy of the Power Pet model PP-2 that we discontinued in 2005. It uses an aluminum extrusion for the main body with a Plexiglas front panel. This is a clever way to avoid high tooling costs but, it does not yield highly precision fits and finish and will have a negative effect on performance. However, the Plexidor really compares with our old PP-2 model, let alone the newer Power Pet PX series electronic pet doors for several reasons. Plexidor uses a similar drive mechanism to the one invented by High Tech Pet but, it uses a less expensive AC motor which is much larger than the DC gear-motor used on the Power Pet door. In addition to slower, louder operation, this causes the Plexidor to have a awkwardly large motor box hung at the top of the door that looks pretty unsightly. We noted several reviews complaining about the Plexidor's high noise level, stating that pets are sometimes afraid to use it and that it can be heard throughout the house when the doggie uses it at night. But, Plexidor's biggest drawback is its price, a whopping $1200.00! We have no idea why it costs so much or why anyone would spend this kind of money when the Power Pet door, at 1/3 the price, performs so much better, looks so much better and gives you so many more features.

This is a doggie door that is unsurpassed by any other brand. I have owned two other dog doors by two different companies, the kinds that are sold in chain pet stores or the big box stores. Both leaked air from day one (or at least within a few weeks). Yes, this is expensive comparatively but if you live in colder climes, you have to keep down on loss of warm air. This door does not lose warm air (other than by convection similar to windows and walls).
